Your AC removes some moisture, but in a Florida summer it often can’t keep up, especially in a tight new build or a home with an oversized AC unit. That’s when musty smells, sticky air and mold spots start showing up.
Signs your house is too humid
- A musty smell in closets or bathrooms
- Condensation on windows or AC vents
- Mildew on grout, ceilings or behind furniture
- The air feels clammy even when the thermostat says it’s cool
The EPA recommends keeping indoor humidity below 60%, ideally between 30% and 50%. A cheap hygrometer will tell you where you stand.
Portable vs whole-house
| Portable | Whole-house | |
|---|---|---|
| Covers | One room | The whole home through your ductwork |
| Drains | Bucket, or a hose | Plumbed to a drain |
| Install | Plug in | Tied into the air handler by an HVAC pro |
| Noise | In the room with you | Out of sight, in the attic or closet |
