A closed-up Florida garage turns into a sauna. Tools rust, lumber moves, cardboard boxes get moldy, and anything stored out there starts to smell.
Why garages get so humid
Most garages aren’t air conditioned, the door lets in outside air every time it opens, and a concrete slab holds moisture. Add a fridge or freezer out there, and the heat makes it worse.
What to look for
- A built-in pump so the water can be pumped out a wall or into a utility sink, with no bucket to empty.
- Size for the space: a 70-pint unit is plenty for most one- or two-car garages.
- Wi-Fi control so you can check humidity from the house.
- Close the space: weatherstrip the garage door and seal gaps, or the unit will try to dry the whole neighborhood.
