Crawl Space Dehumidifier Sizing: Pints Per Day Explained

Most Florida homes sit on a slab, but older raised homes and many homes outside Florida have a crawl space, and a damp crawl space means rot, mold, musty floors and bugs.
What “PPD” means
PPD is pints per day: how much water the unit can pull out of the air in 24 hours under test conditions. Real-world output in a cooler crawl space is lower, so size up rather than down.

Running a dehumidifier in a crawl space with open vents and bare dirt is a losing fight. The usual fix is encapsulation: a heavy vapor barrier over the ground and up the walls, sealed vents, and a dehumidifier to keep it dry.
