The bathroom is one of the most common places for falls at home. A few targeted upgrades let people stay in their own home longer and safer, often without a full remodel.
The upgrades that matter most
- A step-free shower. Replace the tub or tall curb with a curbless or low-threshold base. Curbless shower bases.
- A taller toilet. A 17–19″ seat is far easier to use. Comfort height toilets.
- Grab bars, anchored into studs or blocking. Never on drywall anchors alone.
- A sit-at vanity. Open space underneath for a stool or wheelchair. ADA vanities.
- Better light. A lighted mirror cabinet puts light on faces, not just the ceiling. Lighted medicine cabinets.
- A non-slip floor and lever handles on faucets and doors.
- A wider door if a walker or wheelchair is in the picture.
