Freestanding Tub Faucets: What to Know Before You Buy

A floor-mounted tub filler is what makes a freestanding tub look finished. It’s also the part people forget to plan for until the plumber shows up.

The big catch: the water comes up through the floor

A freestanding faucet stands on its own next to the tub, so the hot and cold supply lines have to come up through the floor right where it sits. On a raised wood floor that’s straightforward. On a concrete slab, which is most Brevard homes, it means trenching the slab to run new lines, unless lines are already there.

Plan the tub and faucet location together, and get the in-floor rough-in valve installed before the floor is finished.

Before you order

  • Check the spout reach so the water lands inside the tub, not on the rim.
  • Check the spout height against the tub rim height.
  • Most freestanding fillers need a matching rough-in valve. Confirm what’s included.
  • Match the finish to your other fixtures: brushed brass, matte black or chrome.
